
Stop Overpaying for “Brand Name” IR Lamps
I see it all the time. An engineer comes in and insists on those pricey, imported lamps for their PET blowing or plastic forming setup. Why? Because the brand name feels safe. But here’s the thing: when we actually put one of our domestic high-performance tubes next to the “gold standard” import in a real-world test, the results are basically the same. The heat output and the wavelength? Identical. You’re paying for a logo, not better heat.
Let’s talk about power density
We build these lamps to hit very specific wattage targets per centimeter. If you’re using a 250W or 500W tube, you just need to make sure the voltage matches your transformer. If it doesn’t, you’re going to fry the filament way sooner than you should. By using high-voltage setups, we can cram more power into a smaller space. It’s a win-win. You get the intense heat needed to soften plastic fast, but you don’t have to build a bigger oven to house it.
The guts of the lamp
To handle the pressure of the halogen cycle, we use heavy-wall quartz glass. This keeps the evaporated tungsten moving back into the filament, which is just a fancy way of saying the glass won’t turn black over time. Depending on what you’re doing, you can pick your coating: *Clear tubesgive you that raw, deep shortwave penetration. *Coated tubesbounce the heat right back into the workpiece. And don’t worry about the installation. These use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. They just slide right in. No need to rip out your sockets or redesign your whole rig.
The one catch
High-wattage shortwave lamps are beasts. They dump a massive amount of energy in a tiny window of time, which is awesome for your cycle times. But remember, that heat doesn’t just vanish into the plastic. It goes everywhere. If your cooling fans are weak or your shielding is an afterthought, you’re going to bake your sensors. We provide the raw power, but you’ve got to make sure your ventilation can handle the heat. Keep your electronics cool, and these lamps will do the rest.
