They use shortwave infrared, which is a fancy way of saying they don’t waste time heating up the air around them. They just shoot the heat straight into whatever you’re working on. It’s immediate. The Power Side of Things Running 1000W at 220V gives you a serious punch. You can hit high surface temperatures in a matter of seconds. It’s a huge win if your machine footprint is small. But here’s a heads-up: these things are sensitive. If your voltage is jumping all over the place, you’re probably going to fry the filament. To keep things stable and stop the temperature from overshooting, I’d highly recommend using a PID controller with an SSR. It just makes the whole process smoother. What’s Actually Happening Inside? Inside that high-purity quartz tube, there’s a filament and some halogen gas. The gas does something pretty cool. As the tungsten evaporates, the “halogen cycle” pushes it right back onto the filament. This keeps the wire from getting thin in one spot, which means the lamp lasts way longer. Plus, the quartz is clear enough that the heat passes right through instead of getting trapped in the glass. Getting Them to Work for You These are designed to be easy. They’re basically drop-in replacements for standard industrial heaters and the end-caps make wiring a breeze. But keep in mind, 1000W in such a small space creates some intense heat. You’ll want to be smart about your reflectors and cooling fans. If you don’t vent the back of the housing, that trapped heat will eventually eat through your wiring insulation. One last thing: because they hit temperature almost instantly, you’ve got to be precise with where you point them. Otherwise, you’ll end up with hotspots on your workpiece.
