We built this 670mm, 600W halogen infrared lamp for one simple reason: to drop straight into PET blowing machines and replace the standard halogen heaters. No messing around. It’s about getting heat that’s consistent, dependable, and ready to keep up with the pace of the blow molding line. And the best part? It fits into what you already have—no redesigning the reflector or socket. You just swap it in and get back to work.
Power, Voltage, and Size—The Practical Stuff
The 600W rating isn’t random. It lines up with the heat needs of the preform heating zones in PET blowing. Plug it in at the right voltage, and it warms up fast, hitting setpoint quickly so your cycle time stays steady. The 670mm length is a sweet spot. Long enough to cover the full heating area on many machines, but short enough to fit comfortably inside compact reflector setups. Here’s the thing about voltage: many industrial halogen tubes run at higher voltage (often around the 400V class). That helps spread the load across the mains, which means you can run smaller wiring, get less voltage drop over distance, and keep terminal hot spots to a minimum. But there’s a trade-off. The lamp has to be wired to the correct voltage. Wire it wrong and the filament stays cool—you’ll get poor performance. Crank the voltage too high and you’ll shorten its life in a hurry.
What’s Inside—And Why It Matters
Inside, you’ve got a filament living in a high-temperature quartz envelope, surrounded by halogen gas. The halogen cycle does a neat trick: it helps return evaporated material back to the filament. The result? The envelope stays cleaner, and the output stays stable over time. Quartz handles the heat shock of repeated on/off cycles without cracking, even when you’re running at high heat density. It just keeps doing its job. And for the connection, we used an R7s base—the standard for linear halogen tubes. It gives you solid contact and holds the lamp securely in the reflector. When it’s time to replace it, you slide the old one out, slide the new one in, and lock it down. Done.
How It Performs—And What It Feels Like on the Line
On a PET blowing line, the lamp’s job is heating preforms before they get stretched. You need heat that’s predictable, quick to respond, and consistent—even after thousands of cycles. That’s exactly how this lamp is built. It comes up to temperature fast, holds the setpoint, and gives you repeatable heating profiles shift after shift. No guessing. No surprises. As a drop-in replacement, it cuts down on changeover time. Match the length, power, and base, and you’re good. Just keep one thing in mind: thermal management matters. If the reflector and airflow aren’t in good shape, the lamp will run hotter than it was designed to, and its life will suffer. Spec it to the machine, treat it right, and it keeps the line moving—without those frustrating, unplanned stops.
